Relevant Project Experience - Urban Design

bullet Campbell Avenue. Urban design consultant for improvements in the 280-foot extra right-of-way that resulted from taking the houses along the west side of the street for one-half mile on Campbell Avenue. Improvements included bus stops, entry features, walls with pilasters, specialty paving and lighting. Tucson, Arizona.
bulletDesign of a Standard Bus Shelter. The Acacia Group is one of three finalist firms in a design competition sponsored by the City of Tucson for a standard city bus shelter. The design concept featured a single structural center pole, an arched steel plate canopy, solar collectors, speakers, vertical shade screens, a central leaner rail and seats of varying heights. Solar powered lighting, bike racks, a drinking fountain, radio and signal devices were listed as optional items. Tucson, Arizona.
bulletTucson Gateway Masterplan. Walt participated in a multi-discipline planning and design charette aimed at developing ideas for an improved and more aesthetic entry into the downtown area of Tucson. Five planning teams made up of an architect, a landscape architect, a civil engineer, an urban planner, a neighborhood representative, and a city staff person addressed five key planning and design issues. Tucson, Arizona.
bulletRonstadt Transit Center. Walt provided landscape design and construction documents for this unique central transit transfer station. The project is constructed from used bricks that were salvaged from buildings removed from the site. Shade and durability were important design criteria for the landscape architecture. bulletTwo Parking Lots on Main Street in Historic Old Town Cottonwood. Historically sensitive parking lots, street trees, walls and street furniture were designed under the Arizona Main Street Program. Walt served as project principal and project designer. Cottonwood, Arizona.
