bullet Hohokam Middle School. Landscape and drainage improvements. The firm was retained to develop and prepare turf renovation and irrigation plans for 200,000 square feet of turf renovation for the recreational needs of the school. The turf renovation plans call for the import of a topsoil blend and the installation of sod. An analysis was done to compare the water use to establish seed or stolon versus sod and was found that the water savings for sod establishment over that of seed or stolons would cover the cost of sod installation. The firm also prepared an irrigation system bid alternate which included the design of a completely underground turf irrigation system (no above ground equipment). The system utilizes drip irrigation technology including drip emitters located on laterals spaced at 18" O.C. installed below ground across the entire turf area. The emitters have been impregnated with a herbicide to minimize root intrusion. If the alternate system is selected and installed it will be the first of its kind on a project this size in Tucson, Arizona.
