 | Design of a Standard Bus
Shelter. The Acacia Group was selected by the City of Tucson to
participate in a Design Competition for the design of a Standard City
Bus Shelter. Three firms were selected as finalists. TAG produced an
architectural scale model and graphic presentation board showing shade
studies and features of the bus shelter. The design concept features a
single structural center pole, an arched steel plate canopy, solar
collectors, speakers, vertical shade screens, a central leaner rail
and seats of varying heights to discourage sleeping on them. The
estimated construction cost for each shelter is $5000. Solar powered
lighting, bike racks, a drinking fountain, radio and signal devices
were listed as

 | Tucson Gateway Masterplan.
The firm participated in a multi-discipline planning and design
charette aimed at developing ideas for an improved and more aesthetic
entry into the downtown area of Tucson. The charette was sponsored by
the Tucson-Pima Arts Council. Five planning teams made up of an
architect, a landscape architect, a civil engineer, an urban planner,
a neighborhood representative, and a city staff person addressed five
key planning and design issues:
- Transportation
- Land use
- Community heritage and history
- Contemporary culture
- Summary conclusions
The charette was very successful and
resulted in a planning report with the most important goal to
eliminate the road structure of I-10 as a barrier in downtown Tucson,
Arizona.

 | Ronstadt Transit Center.
The firm provided landscape design and construction documents for this
unique central transit transfer station. The project is constructed
from used bricks that were salvaged from buildings removed from the
site. Shade and durability were important design criteria for the
landscape architecture. Tucson, Arizona.

 | Two Parking Lots on Main Street
in Historic Old Town Cottonwood. Historically sensitive parking
lots, street trees, walls, and street furniture were designed under
the Arizona Main Street Program. Walt Rogers served as project
principal and project designer. Cottonwood, Arizona.

 | A Downtown Concept Plan for
Historic Florence, Arizona. The firm developed a long-range plan
for Downtown Florence emphasizing parking, street furniture and
streetscaping. Walt Rogers served as project principal and a project
planner. Florence, Arizona.

 | City of Tucson Police
Headquarters Expansion. The firm provided landscape architectural
services for the $8.5 million, six-story high-rise addition to the
City of Tucson Police Headquarters. The landscape architectural work
included design of a courtyard and security entrance. Preservation of
a mature oleander hedge as well as transplanting tall fan palms to
scale down the building were important parts of the project.
Landscaping, irrigation and hardscape design services were provided.

 | Tucson City Center, Norwest
Bank Plaza. An urban plaza, designed by The Acacia Group, provides
the outdoor setting for this high-rise tower and underground parking
complex in downtown Tucson. The main plaza features a fountain and
Arizona Ash shade trees planted over the top of the parking garage.
Seat walls surround the central features, providing rest areas for
pedestrians. Tucson, Arizona.

 | Pima Community College Downtown
Campus Masterplan. The firm participated in the preparation of a
masterplan to guide the future growth of the downtown campus of Pima
Community College, located in Tucson’s central city area. Our work
focused on the urban contextual analysis and site planning for future
educational facilities. An important element in the plan was the
creation of a safe and inviting pedestrian environment. The
development of a program for street closures and the design of outdoor
pedestrian spaces were prepared with this goal in mind. Tucson, Arizona.

Building. Across from the Southern Pacific Depot in downtown
Tucson, the Acacia Group designed landscaping and irrigation for the
adaptive reuse of this historic hotel. Tucson, Arizona.

Corbett House Historic Site Renovation and Parking Areas at the Tucson Museum of Art.
The firm researched the historic character of the gardens associated
with this historic residence and prepared construction documents for
landscape restoration and reconstruction of the Corbett House gardens.
Design of parking areas and locating outdoor seating and outdoor
sculpture were included in the firm’s work. Tucson, Arizona.

Towne Artisans Historic Courtyard in Downtown Tucson’s El Presidio Neighborhood.
The firm designed an authentic courtyard site plan including walls,
out buildings and details for adaptive reuse of this Sonoran
architectural style building dating to 1870 in the El Presidio
Historic District of downtown. The courtyard has
evolved since 1980 as a hugely successful people space. Tucson,
Arizona.

 | Finalist in the Design
Competition for the Historic Carnegie Library Site Plan. The firm
was one of four finalists in a national design competition for
developing a historically sensitive, adaptive reuse plan for Tucson’s
first downtown library and site. Gresham & Beach served as
architectural sub consultants on The Acacia Group’s team. Tucson,

 | El Membrillo Historic
Neighborhood Plan. The firm identified the significant historical
and cultural attributes of this inner-city neighborhood and developed
a plan to mitigate urban development pressure, highlighting the
neighborhood’s visual and cultural qualities. Tucson, Arizona.

 | South Tucson Municipal Center. The
firm designed the central courtyard for this site which includes a
municipal center, library, fire station police department and
detention facilities. The design features a Mexican theme and
incorporates security elements, a fountain, hardscape, two interior
atriums, drought-tolerant plants and a detention basin. Landscape and
irrigation design plans, construction documents and specifications
were prepared. Construction surveillance was carried out. South

Historic District Nomination. Walt Rogers researched the
significant streetscape and landscape elements and prepared a
background report for the nomination of El Encanto Estates as a
National Historic District. Tucson, Arizona.

 | Broadway/Arroyo
Chico Interchange of the Barraza-Aviation Parkway.
The firm designed $1.25 million in
urban design improvements for this important entry point into downtown. The project included $900,000 in landscape and irrigation
improvements. Bicycle paths and bike nodes for the enjoyment of
bicyclists and pedestrians. The project also provided for significant
involvement with neighborhood groups and a public-private design
coordination committee. Tucson, Arizona.

 | Broadway Corridor Transit and
Gateway Study, Urban Design and Landscaping Criteria. The firm
served as the urban design sub consultant for a long-range planning
study of introducing light rail transit in the 13.5-mile Broadway
corridor ending in downtown. Tucson, Arizona.

 | Fourth Avenue Market Analysis.
This is an Action Plan intended to guide and stimulate the use of
properties along Fourth Avenue to maximum mutual advantage of affected
property owners and the City of Tucson as a whole. Our role was to
develop strategies for development, revitalization, funding and
financing. An intensive series of consultant and staff meetings,
public meetings, market studies and meetings with the Planning
Commission and the City Council were held to provide a consensus for
decision making in the area. The firm also provided urban design image
